I’ll post pics of one of the first boards out of the Hawaii factory sometime next week. In the meantime the official word from Al & Mike is below…

WHAT’S NEXT.
Science Customs is a collaboration between 9 time world bodyboarding champ Mike Stewart, and 8 time South African bodyboarding champ Alistair Taylor. Together these two riders possess a wealth of experience second to none in the bodyboarding world.

This project takes the bodyboard to realms that so far have only been the imagination of a few. Check out these boards’ amazing features:

+Virtually seamless construction completely locks out water and eliminates seams that are often subject to delamination. This structure also means a board that is amazingly smooth and has zero-drag edges for more speed

+Thermo-elastic Jacket (TEJ) – this is a special layer that envelopes the entire board, and protects the core from age deterioration, scratches, and any kind of water absorption whatsoever. The TEJ is also water repellant, adding to its low drag when surfing

+Custom graphics and custom colors – these can be applied permanently under the TEJ, so now you can put any design you want on the board forever without it fading or rubbing off over time. There is virtually no limit to what can be done, and we even have colors that most people don’t know exist! For example our iridescent colors change hue depending on the angle you’re looking at the board from

+4FX core – with absolute certainty we can tell you that no one else has a core like this. 4FX is a highly buoyant, engineered complex of perfected flex/projection characteristics for supreme speed and control. Strong and durable 4FX is highly resistant to creasing and is guaranteed to have perfect rocker on EVERY board.

+Science customs are available in an array of thicknesses, so you can get a board matched to your flotation requirements, an essential part of paddling and ride performance

+Even our logos are available in different colors with ultra crisp, sharp detail and permanence – they don’t wear off and won’t look worse over time

+Pre installed surfboard type leash plugs are also available on our boards, which feature very high strength, and eliminate the issue of having a piece of plastic protruding from the slick of your board (again less drag), and having to stab a hole through your new board. These plugs also don’t wear a larger and larger hole in your board as screw in plugs do over time and they are 100% watertight.

Science customs are hand made in Hawaii with careful attention to detail for the discerning bodyboarder who expects the very best from his equipment. They are harder and more time consuming to build than standard bodyboards, but the result is better performance, better durability, and about as close to perfection in a product as you could ever wish for.

Science Bodyboards today announced the signing of one of the countries hottest young prospects in 17-year-old Alex Halsey. Alex joins what is arguably one of the strongest youth teams in the world of bodyboarding.

“We have been watching Alex for some time now and we have been very impressed with his ability in the water and also his professionalism out of the water. So when the opportunity came to get him on board the Science Team we jumped at the chance” Said Science brand manager Chris Apps.

Alex who hails from Western Australia has already been gaining plenty of magazine and video coverage being one of the lucky 5 riders that were selected to be part of Movements Future trading Grom Trip and also landing a part in the Claws and Teeth film Pastiche, which premieres around Australia throughout May

“I’m stoked to be riding for science, they have such a great team and a lot of them are good mates of mine so this will definitely help push my surfing, and it is amazing to have mike as a mentor as well it can only be positive for my srufing”. Alex Said

Also TR has moved on to 4 Play. I’m not sure what will become of the TR signature model but I think it’s a safe bet that they will pop back up as a re-branded MS model.

The official word from Mike:

“I am quite excited to announce the introduction of the new MS Viper surfing fin. I have been refining this design for quite some time now and I am really stoked how they finally came out. I have tried just about every fin ever made and I am comfortable saying that these are my favorite.”

MS VIPER’s feature:

  • Wider, shorter blade design for quick acceleration.
  • Beveled sidewalls improve control.
  • Delta tail design; which I have found to enhance control and minimize drag.
  • Maximum foot pocket drainage eliminates any sand or pebbles in your kick.
  • Rivet grip tread enhances footing on slippery rocks yet won’t snag on coral or sharp objects.
  • All VIPER surfing fins float high and are visible in the roughest surf conditions.
  • All VIPER surfing fins are made of superior 100% natural rubber compounds.
  • Boxed in a sturdy recycled cardboard and printed with soy base ink.

________

I few personal notes based on a production sample I got my hands on:

  • short & quick, I didn’t compare but they are closer to a 5 than a 7
  • as all Vipers are, they will be symmetrical and work on either foot
  • lot’s of drainage!
  • To get a better idea of the shape picture the Delta Tail on an MS 1 applied to a fin.

Full pics soon.
